Laverton P-12 College enjoyed Book Week immensely this year. Even though we were in lockdown, our spirits soared as we explored ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds,’ and shared our favourite stories online.
Students, families and teaching staff celebrated our love of reading together as a community throughout the week:
We held an Art Competition across Prep-12 inviting students to design a poster for this year’s theme (‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’) or to make an artwork based on their favourite book. Many students took on the challenge - we had over 50 entries! Congratulations to the winners, who took home Art supplies and Books:

Assistant Principal Dianne Clare and Librarian Melanie Rowsell entertained us with ‘WebEx Storytime’ in the middle of the week. Each read their favourite short-listed CBCA Book Week picture book as P-6 students tuned in to listen and share their thinking. We all went away and did different craft projects to celebrate and respond to the message of the books. For Ms Clare, we made a rhyming flap-book. For Miss Mel, we designed our own outfits to show what makes us unique.
Students, families and teachers all loved exploring the books on Story Box Library as we launched the new Laverton P-12 College subscription in Book Week. It became our digital classroom library, as we tuned in to watch famous authors and community members read quality Australian stories. All week long, we laughed, we cried, and we picked our favourites. Many of our Literacy lessons in Prep-Year 6 were learning activities around these special books!
We also dressed up in costumes as our favourite book characters throughout the week. We came to WebEx all dressed up and took photos which we showed in a ‘Virtual Parade’ at the end of the week! It was so much fun.
Thank you to everyone who shared in the special memories we made this year!
